Guest Interview with Shohini Banerjee discusses Pioneering Undiscovered Territories in Science from Coffee Time with Kauffman.
Never underestimate the power of an inspirational figure in your life. Shohini is not afraid to talk about highly technical science topics. She’s not afraid to admit how intimidating science can be. But don’t worry, an Everyday Heroine knows that she’s not in this world alone and there is plenty of support from everyone on the journey of life.
In this interview, you’ll discover how important communication is for scientific discoveries and how important you are in advancing discoveries in science no matter what role you take.
Shohini Banerjee is a second-year Ph.D. student and Clark Doctoral Fellow at the University of Maryland in the Bioengineering department.
Working in Dr. Stroka’s Cell and Microenvironment Engineering Lab, her current research focuses on how a family of water channel proteins is involved in the progression of a painful women’s disease called endometriosis.
Prior to starting her Ph.D. work, she completed her bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering at Penn State University.
As a part of the Schreyer Honors College, she graduated with honors after finishing her thesis on engineering artificial tissues.
Outside of academia, Shohini’s passions include Indian classical dance, competitive ballroom, Latin dance, and playing the flute.
